Florida Association of Self Insureds

About Us

FASI Highlights

1969 FASI was formed by individual and group self-insurers to promote and maintain a healthy environment for self insurance.
1982 FASI amends by-laws to allow associate members equal dues and voting rights as well as membership on the board of directors. Within three years, FASI membership doubles.
1983-1991 FASI members hold majority of Department of Labor appointed seats on Self Insurance Rules Advisory Committee to assist in recommendation and drafting of self insurance rules.
1987 FASI retains a Legislative Consultant/Lobbyist (Mike Goldie) and with G.W. Jacobs (FCCI/FEISCO) heading FASI's Legislative Committee, the self insurance industry becomes a force legislatively in Tallahassee.
1993 FASI legislative bill becomes core instrument for drafting of 1993/1994 workers' compensation reform. FASI lobbying efforts, with strong support from self insured group funds, results in individual self-insurers staying under the administration of the Florida Department of Labor.
1995 FASI retains Kautter Management Group to oversee administrative functions of FASI and to serve as Executive Director.
1995-1996

Letter writing campaign is initiated by FASI to key legislators and regulatory officials within the Florida Department of Labor and successfully lobbies against implementation of proposed rules which would have resulted in unnecessary regulation and cost to the industry.

FASI members are appointed to Florida's Customer Council Committee as vice chairs and three ad hoc advisory positions (this committee replaces the Rules Advisory Committee).

1995 FASI establishes record attendance at the Annual Convention at the Ritz Carlton in Naples with 550 attendees.
1996 Customer Council meets following FASI Annual Convention in Naples. Controversial proposal rules are successfully resolved to the satisfaction of the self insurance industry.
